I think it as just growing up in general. You always say "what I'm (what ever age)...." and then you get that age and realize life is much easier when you were a kid!

The stories my mom told me about where babies come from. I knew all about sex, I grew up in the sixties after all and everyone was naked half the time. But to have her lie to me for years about storks and watermelon seeds, what a load of sh!t!!

And the whole Santa Clause thing. When I was about five my mom was taking us to a theme park called Santas Village which was not far from our home. My brothers and my dad were ahead of us, and I asked my mom "Mommy, who is Santa Clause really??" I meant who is his alter ego, like Superman or Batman. She answered to me "Honey, Santa Clause is really your mommy and daddy, we put the presents out and just pretend there's a Santa - but don't tell your brothers, they're too young to know." They were a year and two years younger than me. I wasn't mad that she told me, I was mad that I had to keep that secret. And I did for at least two or three years. Totally unfair to burden a child with that IMHO!!

That Santa Clause wasn't real. I really freaked out and went in deep depression for 3 days. I had written so many letters to him in the 22 years of my life...

I was pretty close with one of my guy cousins... well, as close as 1st cousins can be good friends. We were literally just hours difference in age. After we were adults, I discovered he wasn't really a cousin at all... his mom was married to my uncle. I thought the uncle (dad's brother) was his dad, but turned out he's not. The uncle legally adopted him... they got married when she was pregnant.... the cousin isn't his son. I don't really know why, but it upset me something awful at the time. Someone I thought was really family,...... well, he is. Honestly, he was my best friend/cousin. Still is. But, I still can't help but think our 'relationship' is different now. I'm sometimes tempted to have some perverted romantic fantasy. Haven't been able to though, he too much like a brother than a cousin.
Ok...now I'm reallly confused.

Well since I wanted to be the tooth fairy when I grew up.. The fact that she wasn't real was pretty disappointing.

That the religion I grew up in, Jehovah's Witness, was a load of crap. I sacrificed a lot for that religion and in return I got nothing but emotional baggage. Thanks a lot Mom.
