This seriously makes me wanna fart.

Did you check your device manager for any errors?
Did you recently reformat and not install the mainboard drivers? Did you do anything to make it stop working?
Was it ever working?

USB bridge doesn't just go bad unless you have a driver issue (yes, I'm well aware of the exceptions). Try a system restore back to a working time. Worst case scenario, you get a ps2 wireless setup I guess.

Peace

If the ports are dead, there isn't anything you can do to use them.
I would try plugging in something like a USB flash drive, just to be extra sure they're dead. My logic is this: your wireless transceiver may be "dead" and/or your wireless mouse and KB set have bad/depleted batteries.

Also, if it's a Dell Dimension (black chassis) there should be some concealed USB ports on the front - put your fingers under the grey panel, and gently lift away to reveal them - I'm shocked by the number of people that have no idea that there are some in the front! If you haven't used your front ports, then give 'em a try.

I would also check your BIOS as your PC starts up - perhaps the onboard USB ports became disabled somehow?

If all of this leads nowhere, about the only thing you can do is install a PCI card inside the machine that will give your PC extra USB ports.
If you have XP Service Pack 2 installed, you won't even need to install the device drivers with the card.
Newegg has the RoseWill brand PCI USB cards for all of like, $20 incl shipping (probably less) - they're great cards and I highly recommend them.

Which ports? The PS/2 keyboard / mouse ports or USB? If your PS/2 ports are dead you can use USB in their place. But if the USB ports are dead, you can't use them for anything.

If the ports are dead, it means they will not read anything...flash drives, digital camera...AND ANY OTHER usb device including your wireless keyboard and mouse...
question....why are they dead?
