For example, you could base your value on the average number of anthills per square mile in various climates, estimate the number of ants per anthill, and then account for the entire land area in each kind of climate.

While your estimate may not appear to be very accurate, you could find an upper limit to the value that is actually plausible.

It is important to understand the difference between estimating and calculating. In this case, we begin with estimates and then calculate. In other situations, we begin with measurements, and then can calculate actual values.

It is impossible to calculate exactly the number of ants in the planet as the number is changing every second, may be an estimation of the number of ants is possible.

It's possible I am just not sure how long it would take. There are a lot of ants of all different sizes all over the place. I like the carpenter ants. They are big for an ant and they bite like hell!

One may be able to calcutate, but by the time a figure was reached, it would be outdated...
