When I was a kid (long ago) I read what was then an old book titled "Kinship with all Life" which dealt with the real life story of a man who took in a movie dog named "Strongheart", a german sheppard. Strongheart would grab his masters shoes when his master 'thought' about taking Strongheart out. Through a series of tests, Stronghearts owner found that if he tried to talk to Strongheart like a dog that he got no where but if he spoke or sent thoughts to Strongheart as if the dog were a human, that the dog could literally read his mind. This was a moving, compelling story that really made me think. I'm sure the book is out of print but you can probably find it on-line or at a used book store. If you really care about the subject, it's a good read.
In closing, Strongheart was a well trained, smart and loving dog who never hurt anyone, except for when a man came with the intent of swindling his master with a smile and a con; Strongheart had to be restrained. Check it out.

Yes, ma'am I can...I can just look at an animal and see anguish, pain or happiness. I talk with my dog with our eyes...her eyes tell me most everything I need to know. By touching animals I feel their tenseness, relaxation etc. I have lost my hearing and my other senses have all gone into overtime...I volunteer at the animal shelter and boy, do those animals have tales (tails - pun intended)... I used to work on a race horse farm diagnosing horses pains and what was wrong with them....just by feel and touch and watching them move...(not bragging - it's the truth)...I have a special sense when it comes to animals. I thank God every day for this special way of being. Bless.
