i'm 130 pounds and today i had 6 over the counter sleeping pills with 50mg each, so thats 300mg all together...
it just made me wonder how many is too many.

[only wondering, i'm not suicidal. i just don't want to take way too many in the future or something.]

i forgot to add that i didn't take all 6 at once; i had 3 earlier in the afternoon at about 2:00, and then the other 3 around 9:30.
so they were kinddd of spread out

you should only take what your doctor says to take. if you use over the counter and take to many you are putting yourself in danger of liver disease. if you think you have problems now check out liver damage on webmd.com.
if you are taking benadry (dyphenhydramine) you are putting yourself in danger of a cholenergic chrisis which is a horrible condition. if your problem is only insomnia take a warm bath with a few drops of lavendar essential oil 2 hours before retiring, no caffeine, chocolate or smoking after 3 pm. keep a notebook by your bed and just before retiring write down three things you were thankful for each day....yes, you can think of three things.....example: the neihbors dog did not bark so much today...the warm sun on your skin this morning...you can do it sweetie! good luck and may God bless you
if you feel that life is too hard for you to bear please seek help all things can be made better

Wake him up if you can and get him to the hospital. Tell them what happened. If you can't get him awake then get help and get him there. That definitely isn't good and yes that is the most serious side effect of taking too many sleeping pills as with many other medications. What kind of sleeping medication did he take...what brand was it a newer one like lunesta (CNS-depressant/short term hypnotic) or rozerum ( Melatonin receptor agonists) or an older one like restoril and flurzopam (benzodiazepines or tranquilizers). They work on the body in different ways and the doctors will need to know. I think he needs to get to a doctor and you need to figure out why he took so many of them. If he was experimenting with drugs then he needs to be more careful and find out what the potential side effects are first. If his intentions were to escape by taking these then he needs to talk to someone like a psychologist, therapist, or psychiatrist or religious leader after seeing a doctor to make sure no damage has been done to his actual body. Things to look for if he has overdosed on tranquilizers are extreme confusion, irregular breathing, a sleep like state, inability to waken, no reflexes, and coma.

If you are having such trouble sleeping you should go and see your Dr. 6 is WAY TOO MANY! Trust me, you are going to destroy your stomach lining. And besides "if" you were suicidal you most surely Do Not want to OD on sleeping pills you would most likely fall asleep before you could get enough in you and just be a vegetable the rest of your days or you would die a nasty death where you defecate all over yourself drown in your own vomit or worse do all of that and still wake up in a hospital with severe brain, kidney and liver damage.

It depends on the drug. 100mgs of one medication isn't the same as 100mgs of another. Six definately sounds like too many. Read the instructions on the label and follow it. If you are having a problem sleeping and the over the counter medications aren't helping, you need to see your doctor. Sleep deprivation can lead to mental and physical stress on your body. Best to check it out to be sure that you are healthy.

For the record you should only take what the medication box says. But it isn't unheard of to take an extra before bed. Be very careful it doesn't take much to be overdoses with sleeping pills.
