Need to isolate y on the left side of the equation and everything else on the right side. Use your 4 basic arthmetic operations to do this (+, -, *, /). I'll do first step: (y - 1/x + 3) = -3/4 => y - 1/x = -3/4 - 3 = -3.75. Take it from there.

y - 1/x +3 = -3/4
y - 1/x = -3/4 -3
y - 1/x = -15/4
y = -15/4 + 1/x
y = (-15x + 4 )/4x.

y = 1/x - 3/4 - 3

y = 1/x - 3/4 - 12/4

y = 1/x - 15/4
