These radiators - like most others - have aluminum core and plastic tanks. This makes repairs very difficult, and most shops wouldn't even attempt. This leaves you the only option which is the replacement. Expect to pay about $400 unless you manage to find an aftermarket part.

Hmmm - I'm having the exact same issue in my 94 Civic Si. On the description alone, the dealership thinks it needs a new thermostat. I checked to see if the fans came on when the temp guage gets to the halfway mark, and the did not. This points to needing a new thermostat. I don't understand yet how that could cause the leakage - maybe it's so hot that the pressure causes the leakage. Will let you know more if/when I take it in for service :)

The smoke you saw under the hood. Are you sure it wasn't steam? Smoke is heavier and may have a blue tinge in appearance, and does not evaporate like steam. The smoke may also be residual oil burning off the engine block due to overheating. Also check to see if you have steam coming out of the tailpipe. If you have steam coming out of the tailpipe you either have a blown head gasket, or a cracked block. If your steam is coming out of the engine compartment check to see if it is coming from the water pump. They leak when the shaft bushing goes out, and the pulley will jiggle from side to side as it gets looser.
