Some one told me that if we ran out of oil from the ground, that the US has stockpiles of oil enough to last 10 years. I thought that it was an Idea that any government should use, If they don't.

Yes, it is called the Strategic Reserve. However, it would only last 56 days if we were totally cut off from oil imports.

Yes, this is well know that we do have a storage of oil. AKA "The Oil Reserve." We had this oil long before me and you we around. of course it's been cycled through, but we the USA has always maintained the Reserve. This protects us from disasters whether it's war, natural disasters, oil shortages from abroad. I'm not exactly sure of the length of time, but I think your close. Almost and maybe every country has an oil reserve. check out the link.

We have stockpiles, the strategic petroleum reserve, but no where near a 10 year supply.

Yep..it's true. There is also an unlimited supply of oil offshore...it just takes some company with the technique to get it out of the ground.

I believe so. Most of it is still in the ground in capped off wells rather than in tanks. We can tell by all the small fenced off areas & pumps that aren't pumping.

i believe so...i was NJROTC, and my NSI (naval science instructor) had mentioned that much of the imported oil is used to fill our reserves for rainy days...don't forget that environmentalist don't let any drilling on our lands...so there's alot to tap into if push comes to shove.
