Personally, I read to learn, and to tower above my classmates. I also read for fun, as it removes you from your surroundings.

I read, basically, for the same reasons as you. Plus, reading lets your imagination drift into an entirely different world if you let it.

I want to learn too, so I read for that reason. I can escape into a book in a cozy chair. Reading all sorts of things interests me. I keep different things handy everywhere. Books, magazines, how-to's, newspapers, etc. are scattered in convenient spots all over my house. The only thing I don't read much of is fiction. Some novels are good, but the next one the author writes is almost the same thing, so I lost interest in them. I prefer classics and poetry.

explaining WHY I read would be hard. it would be almost like asking WHY I live (no one came up with a satisfying answer for that yet).

Reading is just another way to sense and live in parallel times and places. in ways you can only live when you are not yourself- when you are your imagination and your power of preception is different.

you precieve whole worlds just by using your eyes. but you don't even see words. just worlds. it's quite astonishing.

plus, it is a very high, sophisticated form of communication. besides stories, and novels.
it's a way of expression with which a erson can reveal much more, with much more ease- and reading can be getting to know someone better.

I read for fun and entertainment but it is the best form of learning in the world. I do read to learn as well.
Reading does make you smarter!

I read because It's one, the best way to learn, two, pretty much the most enjoyable thing you can do for free (i love libraries!), and three, a great way to just get away from it all.

I read because I like to travel by reading I have been around the world and then some. I read for humor, Iread so Iam not lonely and I read for knowledge. I read to relax. I live to read.

So many reasons but mostly for escape. I can get out of my world and climb into someone else's for awhile.
