personally i belive the Detroit Redwings will come off a victory to the western confrence. Nasvhille, being their biggest competitor in the confrence are fierce and tough, but are able to be beaten and especailly by the redwings. Anahiem and Vancouver still have a chance but do not have what it takes i believe to do it. The sharks have no chance either!
on a side note i am a huge detroit wings fan, but take in consideration of other teams, but i believe this years stanly cup winner is gonna be the wings when they play Buffalo in the Championship!

i 100% agree red wings all the way. no ones gonna stop them from becoming 1st in the conference and in the league. oh yeah and Kaotik29, you are so wrong. the wings are the hottest team in the NHL right now. what you don't realize is that the teams they play out of there conference, they absolutely tool on. and they have also tooled on the teams in their conference beating them 6-1 and stuff like that.

go wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, both Nashville and Detroit are artifically inflating their records by playing weak competition 28 times a season (their division 8 times each then Los Angeles 4 times, not counting each other).

Record Vs.

Nashville - 2-1-0, 5 left to play
St. Louis - 4-1-2, 1 left to play
Chicago - 4-0-0, 4 left to play
Columbus - 3-2-0, 3 left to play

Now, lets look against potential playoff teams

Anaheim - 1-2-0, 1 to play
Vancouver - 1-1-1, 1 to play
Minnesota - 3-0-1
San Jose - 1-3-0
Dallas - 3-0-0, 1 to play
Calgary - 2-1-0, 1 to play

So really, in a series, they really only have 2 teams they have performed well against this season.

Hasek is washed up. Period. He was washed up last year in Ottawa. He leads in GAA, but is 13th in the league in Save Percentage. Which means he faces very few shots. Notably, he gave up 2 goals in 15 shots with only like 3 scoring chances against Buffalo in October. They only scored 1.

They are average outside Joe Louis Arena. And they won't hold home ice in the Stanley Cup Finals unless they find a way to gain 4 points on Buffalo (Buffalo has 1 more point, 1 more win, and one less game played). Which means that if the home team wins all games (provided Detroit makes it - see next point), the Sabres win that series 4-3.

The Red Wings are also prone to playoff upsets, especially if they play Anaheim. The last playoff series between the 2 teams was an Anaheim win, and Anaheim was a 7 seed. They lost to the 8 seed Oilers last year. They don't have the star power people seem to think. Datsuk is a mid-tier player, and Zetterberg is their best scorer. Other than Lidstrom, I don't see much for that team when the time matters. They don't have Yzerman, Federov, or Fetisov anymore. This team has almost no connection to their glory days.

So, no, Detroit isn't the team this year.

It's hard to call, but I like Anaheim to win the West, but also can see San Jose, Dallas, Vancouver, and Calgary winning it as well. Anaheim is my pick, though.

They have the best #1 defensive pairing, 2 top-notch goalies, and are only matched in depth by a few teams. Selanne is still a great player. And this team fits the mold the Sabres have established for success in the NHL these days.

It's up in the air for now; the Ducks, Wings, Predators, or possibly the Sharks could place 1st. As for the playoffs, the fact that Detroit has lost three post-seasons straight to eighth place teams isn't exactly reassuring, and while they don't quite have the offensive power of those bygone years, they do have a goaltender that can steal games (it's not like Legace was bad in the 1st round last year, he just wasn't stellar... here's hoping to a better playoff this year for the Wings). As for the Predators, they have a pretty easy schedule too, but the schedules aren't as unbalanced as last year, so there's a bit of a race (and quite a heated one for those hovering around #8).

i'm a red wing fan but i don't think they are going to the west. this is kinda a fear of mine because of the past. I like vancouver winning the west and i have the sharks as an underdog winner.

by the end of the regular season the points totals will be:

detroit
san jose
nashville
anaheim

Detriot will go to the cup, san jose is only decent, nashville won most of its games vs. the 3 teams in its conference that are below .500, and anaheim is not as strong as everyone thinks

Wings will win the West in points (easier schedule)

But I have Nashville losing to Ottawa in the Cup finals.

I still like the Flames to make a run. Kipper is just too good.

Anaheim is #1 in the West IMO.
