So I'm going into High School next year. I get to decide electives, but I only want 2, because an extra elective will result in staying in school until 4 or so, and I will have basketball practice around that time sometimes. I was wondering which classes you recommend I take, since all of you have experience. I know some high schools are different but, which do you think I should take, and why?

Number 1 Choice:
Foreign Language. If you're school offers a variety of languages, I recommend you to choose Spanish or Latin (if available). Spanish and its culture is increasing in the U.S. and there is a good chance you might need the language. Latin, if you want to increase your vocabulary, or so I've heard. But Spanish is an excellent choice.

Number 2 Choice:
Visual/Performing Arts: These include Art, ceramics, theater, Photography, and dance. I took Art in my Freshman year and I did pretty well, knowing the fact that I couldn't draw shadows and paint

Number 3 choice:
History. Period. Take an honors level, it will help in future.

Number 4 choice:
Computers and its applications. It will help you in future because in many classes, such as science, you need basic understanding of Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint/etc.

That seems like a lot for a young person to take on. You won't have a life other than school. It's good that you are doing so good in school and that should always be your first priority but that is just too much. I had all college prep courses when I went into 9th grade and I was a straight A student but the college prep classes took me into C's and I even failed one class. If you think you can do then that is fine but I would talk to your parents about it and see if they can get anything changed for you in order to lighten your load. Friends change a lot in high school and those who were your friend before may not be now. As long as you have a strong set of friends you will be fine. You'll also meet new friends. Stay away from boys until you graduate. I got that advice and didn't take it and then I regretted having the boyfriend that I had for two years and literally wasted my chance at a scholarship and did a lot of bad things. Be careful, be safe, and play sports, go into theater, or any other thing that will be fun and will help you avoid negative things. I am 23 and graduated 4 years ago. I have to pay for all of my schooling and I am really struggling so make sure you keep doing good in school and let no one get in your way.

If you haven't picked it already, or if you can take one.. try a language. I took german, although i know many schools only offer french and spanish. Or, a computer class.. i really enjoyed photography, there are so many, just pick what peaks your interest. Also.. please, stay in school and focus on it!! Don't skip a lot, i had friends who didn't graduate because of it! Good luck and study hard!

language, art, or a team. in my case at my high school we have a class call academic issues in which if you join this class you have joined a varsity team, the Academic Decathlon, where you can compete for city, state, and maybe even nationals. if this is not for you, just look for something that is interesting to you and go for it.

Take a language, you'll really benefit from it (plus, you can insult people and they won't know what you're saying). Also, I would recommend art or music, even if you're not that great at it. It's good to have at least one class that's really fun!
