First I think it's important to see what the cause is and what type of headache it is. Real Age has a section on this that I found helpful.

For migraine, I found that sleeping on one pillow (instead of two) helped prevent migraines. Also, avoiding chocolate, wine, cheese and strong smells.

Putting an ice pack on the back of your neck and a cool cloth on your forehead can help if you catch it early.

Someone once told me to stay away from water when you are nauseated - drink sprite instead - and that seemed to really help.

You might also ask an acupuncturist if there is a point you can work with to relieve the pain.

We also use new moon 5th and zodiac 7th acutonics for our son who gets migraines.

If you're looking at meds, you might ask your doctor about propranalol. I have a friend who started on that and it cut her incidence of migraine in half.

I usually use ice or heat, depending on where the headache is located. If it is at the back of my head, I put ice just at the base of my skull. I also use aromatherapy, mostly lavender because it is very soothing for me. I would try laying down in a darkened room with no lights or sounds and try to sleep first and see if that helps. I personally also like advil and massaging lavender oil into my temples. I would also experiment with caffiene. Some people find that caffiene can bring on headaches, and some find that it helps rid them of headaches. If you find that you are having a difficult time getting rid of the headaches, I'd see a doctor to be sure that there isn't a medical reason for them.

I rub Peppermint oil on my temples and at the base of my neck. I also use it in a warm bath. Be careful not to get near your eyes because it will burn. Also, regarding Feverfew, be sure to remember that it is not suggested for pregnant women.

For really bad migraines, I prefer the prescription Imitrex injections. However, you may want to be in bed when you give them. It always makes me feel like I've drank a 6 pack all at once. But once I wake up, the migraine is completely gone. The Imitrex pills make me sick to my stomach and the nasal spray has never done anything for me.

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

You may try steeping Feverfew - it's a herb used as a tea specifically for migraines. As suggested lie down but have your eyes covered and I also use ear plugs as noise aggitates the nausia. Best to you

Try meditation, drinking water/ don't drink to much initially because of the nausia, and doing soothing exercises like yoga or going for a walk.

I usually try ice to my forehead and lay down in a quiet, dark room. You can sip gatorade, water or clear soda to stay hydrated.
