It was Different Strokes with Willis and Arnold (Gary Coleman's character). I can't remember who played Willis, but Dana Plato was "Kimberly" and died of an accidental drug overdose. And, I remember the young man playing Willis got into some trouble-criminal charges of some sort. People were calling it the Different Strokes Curse for a while.

The show you are asking about was "Diff'rent Strokes" and this was, truly, television at its finest hours (please note heavy sarcasm ...). Gary Coleman played Arnold and his famous line was "Whatcha talkin' 'bout, Willis??????"
