I feel you are referring to Rohan Gavaskar. I do not think Dunil Gavaskar has put influence on anybody for inclusion of his son in the national team, as if Sunil Gavaskar has used influence for Rohan, he would have been continued in the Indian Team as well as in Mumbai Team for a long time.

First of all his son is Rohan Gavaskar not Rahul. Rohan is a decent player and plays for Bengal. Sunny never influenced board for his selection. If so then Rohan would not have been dropped after his maiden ODI fifty against Australia in Australia.

also if there were politics rohan would be playing for maharashtra not west bengal.
he specifically went somewhere else so that such tags would not be appllied.
