I don't believe anyone thought that Kepler was in the center of the Universe. Johannes Kepler was an astronomer who formulated The Laws of Planetary Motion and proved that planetary orbits were elliptical instead of circular.

Johannes Kepler, Mathematician/Astronomer

* Born: 27 December 1571
* Birthplace: Weil der Stadt, Württemberg
* Died: 15 November 1630
* Best Known As: The astronomer who explained planetary motion

Johannes Kepler supported the heliocentric theory by Nicolas Copernicus, defending it in his first major work, Mysterium Cosmographicum (1596). In 1601 Kepler became the imperial mathematician to Rudolf II (emperor of the Holy Roman Empire), succeeding Tycho Brahe. Using Brahe's data, between 1609 and 1619 Kepler developed his three laws of planetary motion in Astronomia Nova and Harmonices Mundi. Thanks in part to a telescope he received from Galileo (they knew each other through correspondence only), Kepler also advanced the science of optics. His achievements in astronomy and mathematics shaped our current understanding of the solar system.

Whos is to say where the center of the Universe is.
Kepler was a foreruner of Newton . It was on Keplers laws of planetary motion that caused Newton to discover the Universal gravity constant.

Kepler was responsible for forming the mathematical foundations that would support Copernicus's theory that the planets revolved around the sun. He also discovered that orbits were elliptical in the process.
