I don't see what's so horrible about being roomed with a freshman, you were one once, the only difference between the two of you is the age, what you should be more concerned with is being stuck with a "reject" someone who no one really wants to room with because s/he is a bad room mate, just because someone is new to college doesn't meen they are a bad person to live with, try it out, the worst that can happen is you will be putting in a request to change room mates

This is really none of my business, but why are you still in the dorms???? I got my BA at Purdue and all the off campus apts really catered to students, since it was a small college town, and they had roommate matching programs. People without roommates would fill out little cards with their interests and stuff and others would look through them, then call the person that seemed interesting and they would meet up and see if they could stand living with each other for a year. If you are still in the dorms as it seems, I know that many schools have a similar program where incoming freshmen fill out information about themselves, such as their hobbies and interests. Perhaps you could look through those and pick your roommate. Or check out facebook for incoming freshmen and contact a few to see if they are normal. Another option would be to become an RA, so you would have a single room.

Is it that big a deal to get put with a freshman? If it's going to be a stranger, what real difference does it make? In college, no one can really tell what year you are once the freshmen lose the lost look in their eyes after a month or so.

it is common for colleges to put freshmen with sophmore or junior students. The thinking behind this is that the older students can kinda 'mentor' the frosh, show them around, and supposedly be a good example for the frosh. You can ask your college superintendent what their protocol is, or if it is possible to choose your roomate.

Are you allowed to choose a roommate? If so, then ask a friend to be your roommate.

No matter what grade the roommate, you will have the same problems, or no problems if your lucky, regardless so don't even sweat it.

well at my college you can if you are squatting (staying in the same room) or applying you can add them to a list that you would like to room with, then they would put you with the person you asked for.
so i think you should try to find someone that you would like to room with!

Pick someone and ask them to be your roomie...have them move in with you and show everyone how cool y'all are together and maybe they'll let y'all stay roomies?
