I've never had a regular period ever since I started at 12. I'm 19 now. I thought all was fine one year, and I had it every 29-30 days, and it lasted for about 4 months, then it went irregular again. Last year I only had 3 periods! is it common to have an irregular period for this long?

Please don't answer if you're going to make fun. Thanks!

Take a breath!

It is ok. I went for 10 years without having a regular period and that included going on birth control. After having an exam and brief dicussion with my ob/gyn, she said it was fine. The important thing to remember is to discuss this with an ob/gyn because they need to confirm that you have no STDs, pregnancy-related issues, or anything else that may interfere.

Just some extra information: if you are very thin with little fat on your body or have a little extra (like many women in the US), then there is a good chance that your monthly cycles will be irregular. Estrogen is what helps to signal your ovaries to kick out an egg every month; too little or too much fat interferes with the hormone's job.

In all, no worries as long as you've seen a physician about the problem.

Hope this helps!

Lots of women have irregular periods, even women in their twenties and thirties.

Honestly, the only person that can tell you if you're healthy or not is your gyno. Make an appointment right away and discuss options like birth control to help you get regular. This all could be your normal flow or you might have something serious going on.

It's not uncommon to have irregular periods for a long time, but you should check with your doctor if you haven't already. When I was in high school, my best friend had really irregular periods like yours, and her doctor put her on birth control pills to regulate it. She stayed on them for a few years then went off them. Everything is fine with her now.

I have had irregular periods since I have started mine as well, just go and see your gyno and get some birthcontrol pills or the nuva ring and that will keep you regular a LOT of women use birth control just for that reason including me :)

I seriously suggest you go to your OBGYN and get a Pap Smear and check up. You could have a number of things going on with your system. Something as minor as your diet and exercise routine to your overall pelvic health. Such as cysts, endometriosis, hormones (which in most cases the pill can regulate)

I don't think that it's normal to have such irregular periods at all. You need to see your gynaecologist doctor and get a pelvic exam. There could be something very wrong. Please seek medical help ASAP.

you by no potential know. I have had an abnormal era all my existence. at one factor it replaced into coming about each 40 days or so and then it went loopy back. my physician did tell me that in case you do not have a era in 3 months to come back in and she might want to offer me some variety of drugs to make me start up. something about being an develop hazards for particular cancers in case you do not have a era for over 3 months. you would possibly want to refer on your physician about it.

no, thats really not normal. go to the gynacologist ASAP. my poor cousin who is only 15 didn't have a period for 2 years and never went to the dr,. may now be facing cancer (still waiting to for full diagnosis). i'm not saying that's what's going on with you, but it could lead to serious problems, so please go! ; )
