She did play a lesbian in a movie called "Under the Tuscan Sun."
It was a good movie and she played the role very well. It also stars Diane Lane. In the movie Diane Lane's character finds out her husband is cheating on her. She gets a divorce and her two best friends that are lesbians send her on a romantic tour of Tuscany for gays and lesbians.
