I'm merely 16, yet my anxiety is extremely high and lately I have found myself fearing death. :( I used to constantly fear it over summer, but then I got over it for a while. Does anyone have any tips as to how I can just stop thinking about it?

You are only 16. I can think of a lot of things to do besides thinking of death. Death comes at a moments notice. Like a thief in the night it will capture you. Nobody can avoid death, it's inevitable. Take up a sport or a hobby and focus on the good things in life and what you can do to make your life promising. You have so much to gain in this lifetime and this anxiety should be the furthest thing from your mind. You were important the day that you were born and you were put here for a reason. Make it a reality, make your life happen. You are a special person. Please, don't make it a tragedy.
Take care, Jesus loves you.

when I was 16 I spent 5 weeks in the hospital fighting a heart valve problem, so I have a good idea of what you are going through. What I have found that works for this and many other problems we get ourselves into, is to think of another subject. After doing this a while it will become a habit, and before you know it you will have the normal problems of a 16 year old. You will find this trick works with temptations also. You will be amazed how much will power a person has when they can forget what is tempting them.

There is an inadequacy about religions concepts.... does that sup rise you?
Religion is mostly 'doctrine'... and death is doctrines extortion.
If you do not understand your own concepts of your own understandings of spirit, or spiritual, or spirituality, death will continue to fill you with anxiety, fear, worry, or worse yet...depression.
Take heart tho... what you are feeling is common for us as humans at that age..we all reach a point in our cognition development process where we HAVE to work out our personal beliefs..it's part of growing up.
The neat thing is, the more we invest in our self understandings, the better people we become. That's called esteem...our ethics and honer and courage and compassion's find residence there.
You are doin good... at least you are seeking... that's a positive sign. When i was your age, i withdrew from such inventory's of understanding too often...and payed a price for it later.

First, your fear is valid. Death happens to be one of those things that we cannot get away from in life. It will happen to all of us. Along with this, our society is loaded with images of DOOM and GLOOM. Our news programs put fear into our minds and think that every action is going to cause the end of the world. Global Warming, Cancer, AIDS, Terrorism, you name it. CNN and the rest of the news organization put this "thought" in our heads on an almost daily basis.

With that being said, I would have to ask you this: "Would you rather worry everyday of your life about when you are going to die or would you rather live you life and enjoy every moment until you do die?"

My point is, why worry about something that you cannot control. Your fear is something that everyone has at one point in their lives, but most move on and accept the fact that you cannot control "when" it happens.

At 16, you should be thinking about positive things. Enjoy your friends, enjoy that you don't have to pay bills each month, enjoy that you are healthy, etc.

Perhaps your anxiety is something else than worrying about death.
I would continue to live my life and if your fear becomes unmanageable or uncontrollable than you should see a professional.

Have fun and stop worrying about something that you KNOW that you cannot control.

I think is reasonable to fear death. The more important question is why or what about it do you fear. Is it the unknown, what happens next, how it is going to happen, what are you going to miss out on. I am 30 and fear death because I will miss out on visiting far off places and not completing all my dream travels. Figure out what about death is scary and tackle that. If is a question of what happens after, talk to a pastor or other religious figure for more answers. If it how it could happen, try to understand the concept of "out of our control". Discover the wonder of free will and how much you affect others as they do you. You can't change it, you just have to focus on accepting it.

It probably has to do with your beliefs about death and the afterlife. Maybe you fear that something horrible will happen to you? Or maybe you don't have a solid belief in what may happen? In order to stop thinking about it, you have to look at death in another way. Once you realize that death is something natural that happens every day and every minute and that there's nothing to fear, then you'll decrease your anxiety.

Think about this hard my young friend......what is the worse that can ever happen to you? The answer is death. But death comes to us all. By not wasting your life worrying about how or when you are going to die and spending it on how to get the most of life, you will soon find that death is not so scarry because you are taking advantage of each moment you have here. Live a fun long life.....screw the rest :)

i totally understand how that feels. :( its never easy to just stop thinking about anything, at the drop of a hat. even Christians fear death. i used to be very afraid of death. not so much what was gonna happen to me, but that i might die before i really lived. i also used to worry that there wasn't really a heaven. and when we die we just go into oblivion until judgement day. but jesus, when he was being crucified said to the believing criminal next to him, " assuredly i say to you, TODAY you will be with me in paradise". that may not help you much, but all anyone can do is know that death will come eventually. theres really nothing you can do about it. but if you love jesus then you can be confident you won't die until he wants you to come home.

you should be around your friends and family more because it sounds to me that maybe keep to yourself and have to much time on your hands to think about these things when your with your friends and family you'll be more occupied and these thoughts will be the farthest things from your mind.
