Nirvana defined grunge. No other group could be considered the best.

i not at all loved the be conscious 'grunge', no longer did maximum of those bands. i advise soundgarden became borderline heavy metallic. pearl jam became an incarnation of a 80's metallic band eco-friendly river. nirvana had extra of a punk rock sound, and alice in chains became prepare by a record employer to compete with the seattle sound. all of those bands ahve a very diverse sound. yet pearl jam are between the right bands interior the finest two decades, tremendous music, tremendous frame of mind, the anti sellouts, tremendous excursions, availibility of all stay shows on cd, political activism, and eddie is a important pete townshend fan. yet kurt cobain is one among the most influential musician from this era.

Nirvana really made the genre.
But I personally think that The Gits are the best in talent and in style. They are are grunge, but punk based.

nirvana was closer to dinosaur jr.-era post-punk than any grunge that came out of seattle. they had a profound effect on grunge but they were not grunge.

i'd have to say alice in chains are my favorite seattle grunge band. their unplugged album is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Nirvana without a doubt. For some reason I hate chris cornell in soundgarden but like him in audioslave, and ive never been able to stand eddie vedders(pearl jam) voice.
