From what I've been reading, it would be advisable to stick with XP until they work the bugs out of this one.

Most of the older computer systems (like mine) don't have certain program algorithms which will lets Vista run unobstructed on your computer.

Bottom line: Microsoft created a partial lemon. It's great on security, but really crappy on everything else.

Based on the description of the features, I would say no if you already have XP. Probably worth the upgrade if you have an earlier version of windows (2000 or 98). The new Internet Explorer 7 that comes with it can be downloaded and used with XP. The media center allows you to view internet content on your TV. The new security program that comes with it has anti-spyware protection. I think those are most of the new features. Personally I'm going to sit this one out and wait until next time (in another 5 years or so).

If it was worth 1000, i would still get it. That is a reasonable price for vista.

I'm sure it is to Microsoft.

My nephew is a programmer and has been testing it since its first Beta release and his main comment is that it is very different from XP and will confuse and frustrate people. When I asked him about it, he told me that he never buys the newest OS because it will have tons of bugs. So based on his expert advise, I'd have to say no.

As someone who has it and really likes it, and all the features it offers, I am saying yes. It is very organized and I enjoy being able to find all my pictures :)

I don't think MS should be able to give it away, I'm sure there are laws against the distribution of defective products.
