Type in your number, then 2. Right click and go down to font, under effects, check the box that says SUPERSCRIPT.

type in the number you want and highlight it. Then go to format and click on font. From there click on superscript and it should make it look like an exponent.

Press "Ctrl" "Shift" and " +" at the same time to toggle between "superscript" mode.
i.e. Press "Ctrl" "Shift" and " +" then "2"
to make a "squared" entry.

Getting superscript numbers can be achieved by pressing "Ctrl-Shift-=" and subscript by pressing "Ctrl-=". √ is from holding alt, hitting 251 into the numpad (w/ numlock on) then releasing alt.
