well yes i that is the way you bought it , or had it made, each laptop is very uniquie, so your really do not know what you r going to fine, when buying one, make sure it is the one you really wanted.

I don't know about that. but you can buy one with a 12 cells instead of 6.
that will be like having 2 batteries but much lighter

I know thinkpads make a battery that fits in the CD tray, don't know about others.
