Why is it that when I say " I do not agree with homosexuality because my religion condemns it" i am slapped as a bigoted homophobe?

Until they find a "gay" gene, I will believe homosexuality as a choice.

I still believe gays will go to heaven, so long as they accept Christ, like everyone else.

What do you mean, until someone finds a 'gay' gene???
Why do you believe in God then? Obviously, because of things you learned, have faith in...if you see a gay person, let's say, a very young boy obviously not manly, acting a bit like a girl (I know this is a stereotype but I am using it as an example) you say, that person is chosing their sexuality??? Many parents know early on their child is gay by watching them grow, by LEARNING and BELIEVING what they see...that is a great part of faith, isn't it? Believing in what you see, the good God is doing...that exactly is where the bigot stuff is coming from...you obviously are not comfortable with that, saying you don't hate...maybe you need to educate yourself better, even within your religion (I don't mean this talking down)...there are different groups out there.

I think probably because the largest number of bigotted homophobes has been from conservative christians. It really does become an everyday occurence for gay people to hear they are wrong, sick, depraved, ill, mentally deranged, sinners, demon possessed (my favorite) etc. and this all tends to stem from christians.

I would believe, however, that you are not a bigot unless you prove yourself to be one. There is room for discussion and debate, especially when the positions are so far apart. The only issue is that people are going to want you to actually think for yourself, letting someone else think for you without you know why or what they are doing is not only dangerous, it will weaken your arguments to the point that they are easily dismissed. Come with your backing, your thoughts, your arguments, but leave your bible at home because the use of that has already been disproven in debates. Sorry.

That's fine to disagree based on your religion. But, I was raised with a religious upbringing myself and I was raised to believe that God loves all his people gay or not. My sister is gay and she is very religious but many churches won't accept her... this has torn her up inside and she has encountered many religious haters just because of the way she was born...and yes I feel she was born this way she acted more like a boy from day one. I do not believe it is always a choice to be gay. I think if you are just diagreeing with the lifestyle and if your not saying anything else, than may be some people have been too quick to judge you...as just disagreeing is not homophobic in it's own right, it's just your opinion. But you must ask yourself do you direspect someone or verbally bash them because they are gay? Would you accept a gay person at your church, or invite one to your house for dinner with your family. Would you walk away from a gay person if they were in trouble? If you would treat a gay person as an equal your are not homophobic.

Pretty much for the same reason that when you stand out in the rain, you get wet.

When you choose to dislike a whole group of people for any reason, that is called discrimination. If that group of people were, say, black people, you would be called a racist. In this case, the group is gay people, so that makes you a homophobe by definition.

Since you go on to say that you believe homosexuality is a choice, in spite of all the evidence and testimony to the contrary, you refuse to acknowledge that any other opinion besides your could be correct. That's where the bigot part comes in.

If you chose instead to be more tolerant and accepting of people, you would probably not be called such things... Just like if you chose to stay inside when it rains, you would probably stay dry.

Because you are. You assert that homosexuality is a choice, rather than genetic programming. Yet, your religious beliefs are absolutely a choice. You can choose to accept those prejudicial beliefs or not. You CHOOSE to believe them because they are comfortable and you condemn an entire group of wonderful, productive and worthy human beings based on your CHOICE. You don't get to claim genetic predisposition, but the scientific evidence supports that homosexuals do. What makes sense here, from a logical standpoint?

You know, as long as you love your neighbor (the golden rule), don't kill in the name of god (Commandment # 6), or go against the other teachings of jesus (like welcome the disgraced and unworthy into your home) i think you are a good person. you can disagree with someone without being disrespectful. i don't know if you accomplished that with your question, but who am i to judge?

i am a christian, but the reason why i don't have a problem with it is because heterosexual couples often have the same problems as homosexual couples. For instance, adultery, lieing, or coveting (commandments 7, 9, and 10). I figure that if the couple is monogamous, loving, worshiping god with all their hearts, and do their best to be good christians, how can god be angry with them?

"the mark of an educated mind is to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" said a famous philosopher. Do you have an educated mind? That's for you and god to know.

You can disagree with homosexuality all you want, it will not make it go away. I care not one whit whether or not you like me or dislike me because I am gay. If you dislike me because I am Gay, it is your loss, not mine. If you do not HATE gays because of your religion, you are not a homophobe. If you do not fear gays, you are not a homophobe...you are just closed minded and have let others make your choices for you. Sad but true

Does your religion condemn lying? If it does, please just celebrate the reason of Christmas, not the season...no Santa, no Easter bunny.

If you are referring to Leviticus...please read all of the abominations, and then tell the truth, you yourself are an abomination to God.

And please talk to us about Sodom and Gomorrah, because Lot, that godly man, offered the evil men of the village his virgin daughters to protect his visitors from the angry villagers. (But you see at the time women were considered the property of the head of the house, just like a sheep or a cow.) Would it be great to live like that again? Just to follow up on Lots family, after his wife was turned into a pillar of salt, and Lot and his daughters were safe in the mountains, the daughters got him drunk and slept with him to impregnate themselves for fear that there were no survivors in the world. Where was their faith?

Liberals aren't very liberal after all.

By the way, why does your religion condemn it?
