it certainly sped things up, considering the textiles were made by hand, but it really was the Eli Whitney's cotton gin, that turned the tide for cotton plantation owners, because they could use the slaves at other areas of the farm, and got alot more seeds out of the cotton at a faster rate, than by slave hands.

it made industry to grow dramatically. cotton farming used many slaves, but it made less workers needs, and more products so the economy of the america which at the time depended on cotton and tabbacco whent skyrocketed.
