If the job was done properly, it shouldn't be a problem. You don't have to get the car fixed at the dealer to keep the warranty valid. They may not cover that particular scratch if the paint peeled off or something, but that's the extent of it.

The warranty will cover defects from workmanship, so the rest of the painted surface is still covered by the warranty. Only the area that is being repaired will not be. That portion will be covered by the body shop that fixes the damaged area. I had no problems with my Dodge after a similar circumstance where I was responsible for scraping the bottom of my front bumper on a sidewalk and had it painted, and later I developed rust on the rear door. Dodge repaired the rusted area on the edge of the door without question. Your other friend is speaking from the wrong orifice, not from experience in automotive repairs.

Nonsense. Only the repaired/repainted areas will fall out of GM warranty. Besides, all quality collision repairers give a LIFETIME warranty on their repairs and GM can't come close to that. One more note on this subject: a dealership CANNOT deny warranty issues on a vehicle. Only GM of North America can make that call. (I've had some experience with this before.)
