Pujols? A-Rod? Santana? Howard? I've got numero uno, and I need to make the right decision. Help me out!

Thanks!

i wouldnt take pujols or howard. there are tons of good first basemen other than them, including justin morneau, david ortiz, lance berkman, mark texiera... i would take either johan, or call me crazy, chase utley. let me explain...

although i usually dont take pitchers until the end, santana is money in every stat. for pitchers, you can find wins, strikeouts easily. in recent years, ERA has been down overall for all pitchers and whip is the hardest stat to fill besides steals. santana is money is wins, era, strikeouts, and whip.
now for chase utley. ya it seems crazy. first of all, look at his stats. bats over .300, 32 HR, 100 rbi, over 130 runs, and 15 stolen bases. the stats are good, but your thinking not #1 overall worthy. but consider this... who is the next best second baseman... im waiting... since soriano is no longer 2B eligible, its utley, and then nobody. there are no elite second basemen except chase. u can find at least 5 great 1B, SS, 3B, SP, RP, 15 great OF, and 5 great catchers. but there is only 1 great second baseman and then a bunch of sucky ones.

Pujols is an automatic. But the most important pick is not who is first but who do you take next. Your season depends on your number 2 pick. You will have to build off your first pick so you will need to decide if you build power or speed, OF or secure a thin position like SS but you will have 2 picks and they need to have purpose. That's why I say not to take Johan, there is not enough solid pitching that you can count on as a second round pick to build an unbeatable rotation. Carpenter will be gone when it comes back to you so you will get one or two good hitters, probably Hafner or Wells and then you will scramble, have too many needs to fill and end up with the 3rd or 4th best at every position and still not have a pitching staff that is a sure thing.

I'd go with Albert Pujols. Most consistent player out there and he's still very young. He's an anchor on any team and gives you huge value at first. 45 Homers, 140 RBI's and he hits .320 or better. It's a huge advantage to have the first pick in any fantasy baseball league because Pujols is by far the best player in the game.

if it's point based i think i would go with Albert Pujols..
he is the best player in the league

if it's roto then you gotta look for a more well rounded player like A-rod.
he does everything pujols does but he also steals bases.
in a roto league u might even want to consider taking a player you didn't mention there.
other guys i like at top pick in a roto league include Alfonso Soriano or even Vladimir Guerreo

I've said this before and i'll say it again. pitchers get injured way too much to make your number one overall pick in the entry draft. don't go with johan. he'll go down and you'll have nothing.

Albert Pujols is the best player in the game and the most consistent fantasy contributor. You can't go wrong with Pujols.

Santana. You can't go wrong with Pujols either but WHIP and ERA are the two hardest stats besides SB to get, although Pujols is great at avg. pitching stats are harder to come by.

Unless you're in a very exotic format that overemphasizes pitching, you have to take Pujols. A-Rod shouldn't go until the middle of the first round. There are usually enough servicable SP to go around.

pujols no doubt the only reason howard had better stats than pujols last season was because pujols got injured and had to miss some games.
