I have been an unfaithfaul watcher & now that I am back in the swing of it, I am confused as to why the porch has no house...

He's just got no place to live. He did by the lot with an old girlfriend, but at the time he continued to live with either Elliot or Turk. Since the Turk's want their space (because of the baby, etc), and Elliot wanted to live alone in her new house that she bought, JD's been living in a tent on the porch he built on his lot.

He bought the lot without a house and then built the deck (porch). He doesn't live on it. He had a girlfriend, believe her name was Julie, that he bought the lot with, but they split up sometime afterward.
