out of all the vegetarians, a large percentage is 7th Day Adventists. They are a bunch of legalistic rule following Christians who deny many freedoms. Their debate on the Word can be quite convincing to the novice Bible Thumper. They base their denial on out of context verses in the Bible. They back it up by scientific proof that vegetarian eating habits are healthier than those with meat. Can't really argue against that can we? As far as plants having feelings, they feel justified that since Abel gave a sacrifice of plants to God and God was pleased with it then it is a good thing.

I became a vegetarian just a little while ago. This is why:

I'm a veteran. I've been to Afghanistan and Iraq. I've witnessed more death in less than five years than I ever want to see again. I have been fighting the mental and emotional aftermath of my time overseas ever since I came home. Recently, I lost a very dear pet. I know to most it's just a kitten but to me it was the breaking point. I am so sick and tired of death. I decided to give up meat because I do not want to have anything to do with a system that kills animals in terror just for the sake of having a yummy steak or pork chop. I do not want to live off of something that has died. I know it's allot to understand. To my friends it makes no sense at all. To me it's very personal and something I feel very good about both physically and emotionally.

I became vegetarian because of health reason, because animals are disease creatures. I like eating a human, would you eat a human if it was legal and it taste good???? No, because to you that is disgusting, that person can have any disease and if you eat it, then you can have it. Well animals are worse then humans when it comes to disease. Also, vegetarians are not fat....have high cholesterol compared to meat eaters. You avoid many types of disease by not eating meat. Meat also have NO, nutritional value, because of that and it has a chance of disease..........why eat it? only because of taste, or are you better then that? I don't eat foods that has any type of harm or anything near or me getting sick, no candy, no high sugary products, no high calories. Because I am a better then those things, and you should be to. The extension of life is longer and healther for a vegetarian, because of that, and I love life I am a vegetarian. Anyone who loves life, and is against anything that can harm there bodies, and try there best to avoid everything that can should be a vegetarian.

It's not always about beliefs, some people do it to be healthier. Plus plants like being eaten more than animals, it is a plants destiny to be eaten. If they aren't eaten, they become suicidal because they will live an unfufilling life. So what do you want, a fufilled plant, or a suicidal or dead by suicide plant?

I can understand those that do it for religious or health reasons, but the ones that do it because of some misguided notion of cruelty are laughable to me. You bring up a valid point. Why is the life of animal so much more valuable than the life of a plant?

People become vegetarian for a number of reasons.

1. They are against animal cruelty and they think eating them is cruel.
2. Religious reasons
3. health reasons

Whatever the reason, I think being a vegetarian is very healthy.

I would say there are three main reasons people become vegetarians.
1. there are animal rights vegetarians (typically anti-hunting and any human cause of animal death)
2. there are environmental vegetarians -- (typically ok with hunting and small farms that don't have as much impact)
3. there are health related vegetarians -- (cutting out red meats, they often eat fish).

Some people simply don't like the taste of meat.
Some object to animals dying for humans needs
One vegetarian I know loves meat, but objects to the drain on the earths natural resources it takes to raise cattle.
To each their own, pass me a t-bone please....

because they find it "bad". but its the cycle of life if they live life without meat they won't have a very nutritional life. because where they get there nutrients from meat, so instead they use pills which supply the artificial nutrients. vegeterians need to get over themselves.
