Name two ways in which friction can be increased?

Two ways to increase friction are:
1) increase the force holding the two surfaces together. (Push them together harder.)
2) change the texture of the surfaces in contact.

Friction is independent of area of contact and only depends on the nature of surfaces thus to increase it either
1 make the surface rough by scratching on it
2. Over polishing on the surface of contact
