Ballet and pointe are the same general idea. The steps are the same, everything done in ballet can be done en pointe (and vise versa). The differnce is the shoe and the skill necessary (and gender).

Ballet shoes are soft and you can only go up to the ball of your foot (the front part by your toes). They are usually made of a soft leather or canvas. Pointe shoes are made up of several parts including satin and paper meche, and have a hard toe (known as a box) and arch. With pointe shoes you can go all the way on to the top of your toes.

Beginners always start in soft shoes, intermediate often take class in both, and professional will take full classes in their pointe shoes. It takes at least 5 years, and to be fully developed before a girl can go en pointe (men for the most part do not go en pointe). It takes that time to build up strengh in the ankle, foot, and leg. Also that time is used to pratice where your personal center of balence is. Also pointe shoes add about 1/4 of an inch on to the leangh of your foot. So you have to practice with that added difficutly. Not all dancers make it to the level of pointe, and many who do quit early because it is very painful.

Professional ballerinas dance en pointe. When talking to someone about classes they take (I do this too, I take ballet class and pointe class, although most times the combonations from ballet are just repeted). We start in our soft shoes for about 45-mintues to an hour and then do the next 30 to 45 minutes en pointe.

I hope this answers your questions. Take a look at yahoo images too.

I just found a site with thousands of downloadable woodworking plans, it s really great. You can check it out here ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info ) Here is an honest review : If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where TedsWoodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, TedsWoodworking will change your perception. In Ted's Woodworking you will get everything you need: Diagrams which are detailed with a full set of dimensions, step-by-step instructions how to start your project and the necessary materials for that particular project. All the woodworking tools you will need: If you are a beginner or have done some woodworking you will find these plans easy-to-follow as the instructions are very clearly written. The woodworking plans are straightforward so they are not complicated at all. Even if you are a total newcomer to woodworking you will simply be able to master all the techniques that are needed and the woodworking skills very quickly by following the concise and clear instructions. Another thing which is so great about these woodworking plans is that there have been some videos included and there are some to guide you in how to build benches home furniture dog houses bird feeders sheds and much much more. There is also a lifetime member acess included in the package and you get these extras for no cost to you as they are free with no additional charges at all! This alone is worth the entire price for TedsWoodworking. Ted Mcgrath is a very dedicated and experienced woodworker who knows what he is talking about when it comes to woodworking and DIY projects s he has been a woodworker for many many years. There is only one drawback that we could find and that being with 16,000 woodworking plans you are bound to get some which look a little disorganized but that is understandable as it is very difficult to place all these plans into their proper categories. Secondly, it might take you a little longer to do the downloads on because of the size of them. But the members area include an option to upgrade to the DVD so you can save time on downloading. I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars. Here's the bottom line: If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you SHOULD use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Check the site: ( woodworkingplans.kyma.info )

Pointe dancing is similar. Plain old ballet is just done with ballet slippers. Pointe dancing is done with ballet shoes that have a special material at the toe to help dancers dance directly on their toes.

Ballet is dancing in soft shoes. It is typically done for the first five years of training or until the dancer is strong enough to support herself in pointe shoes.

Pointe shoes are made of a paper mache material, and assist the dancer in standing up on her toes.

Pointe is the same thing as ballet, contrary to what the parent above said, except that it is performed on the tips of the toes instead of the balls of the feet.

No, no,no!!! My daughter does dance and ballet and pointe are completely different. Pointe is wear you put on a ballet shoe with a piece of wood at the bottom called a shank. So u can stand up on your tip toes and u dont wiggle you hips. As a dancer is important to maintain posture and a figure for dance.Ballet involves flat shoes but pointe is where u need balance, poise and confidence. It is more of a complex form of ballet offered too only girls with strong legs and good ballet moves. In order to start pointe, you have to take a substantial amount of regular ballet classes until you posses enough strength to stand on your toes. Most ballet productions are on pointe. When doing pointe its a very strenuous exercise on your feet so you were lambs wool around your toes( yes real lambs wool) it can come in a pad or loosely, toe tap which is like tape that goes around injured toes, or gel pads( not recommend by serious dance schools). Gel pads do not allow you to "feel the floor" which beacuse of this is banned from most serious dance schools. You can damage your feet, get blisters and other serious problems. In order to dance pointe you must be supervisied by a proffesional dane(ballet) teacher and avoid doing any other sports. This is very fun but serious activity. My daughter loooooves it!!!!Hope this helps you understand what pointe is! go to www.google.com then under images to see what the shoes are!!!!! Hope this helps!!

In ballet, dancing "en pointe" refers to dancing on the points of the ballet shoes, rather than flat on the soles, so a ballerina is up on her toes.

Well pointe is a form of ballet but not another name for it. instead of being flat you are on the tips of your toes in specially made shoes.
