I can remember a number of years ago that there was a controversy over putting a sculpture in a police station in Buffalo, New York. I believe the sculpture was done in bronze, and I think it was called The Awakening. It was controversial because to some folks it appeared to be grotesque, somewhat resembling a person that had been skinned or dissected. To others, it looked like an angel. Any information or pictures would be helpful... the only image I have is the one in my head.

The Awakening search is overwhelmed by the huge sculpture of that name in Washington DC.
The only controversial sculpture that comes up in Buffalo was a non-figural display in a highway median.
