A standard blank DVD has 4.7 GB of free space while a Blank Dual Layer DVD has 9GB ....The thing about the standard Blank is that when you put data on it, it actually only has 4.35 GB ...Also the only way to burn a Dual Layer DVD is only if your burner supports it...

Regular DVDs can hold a bit more than 4 and duel-layers can hold a bit less than 9. Regular CDs are limited to about 700 megabytes.
