The players refused to take the field. It was the first year that there were to be money given to the players on the first division teams t and due to wartime wage and price controls, the World Series shares were going to be small. The Cubs Les Mann and Red Sox Harry Hooper both argued with the National Commission for a higher rate and almost struck. They refused to go on the field and finally were talked into going on with the game

Yes Boston won that World Series in Game 6 that day over the Chicago Cubs, but actually Boston did it again in 2004 not 2006. 2006 was the St. Louis Cardinals.
Besides that I would say other things that may have been first, but I am unsure if they occured prior is that pitching an all lefty rotation (Chicago) in the 1918 World Series might have been a first, they did it because of Babe Ruth. Or possibly the first World Series played in September (played early because of the war).

tough question, I think it has to be the first time the players were going to share the revenue from the gate receipts. I do recall something about the players were pretty ticked and was not going to play. That's about all I remember, but game five was also the fist win for the cubs, hippo Vaughn threw a 5 hit shut out.Boston ended up taking the series though

for the record dpkissupe or whoever you are... NO ONE hit a homerun inthe 1918 world series.. and no one hit home runs in the 1906 WS or the 1907 WS either.. but thanks for playing..

Game 5 was on Sept. 10 but the game was delayed while players argued about gate receipts because for the first time all first division ball clubs shared in the revenue.
