Three men pay for a hotel room that cost $30. Each man pays $10. The room is actually $25, so the owner gives each man back $1 and keeps $2 for himself. Therefore each man paid $9. $9 X 3 = $27 add the $2 that the owner took which makes $29. Where did the extra dollar go. ?
Someone told this to me before... can you figure out what happened to the $1?

He didn't charge them $25 he charged them $27 if he kept the the $2. Since he gave them back only $3 - $27 plus $3 = $30. It is not missing. The hotel guy cheated them out of $2

Okay think of it this way. The owner had $30 and then gave back $1 to each of them. So the owner has $27, $9 from each of them, which makes sense. The way you worded it was just confusing, because it made it sound like the owner only had $2 when really he has $27 and the guys each have $1.

the $27 dollars is after u add the $2 the owner took. you got the story all mixed up.

it was either lost or you can make up any reasons for it since it is not a good question. The best thing you can say is " The dollar was lost"

The bellboy has $2. The Manager has $25. The men have $3. It adds up to $30.
Your $27 already includes the $2 that the bellboy has. You are adding that twice, and not counting the money the men have.
