The worrying that she's pregnant is probably what made her period late. The stress ya know? I am a little tired of people saying to teens, if you aren't ready to be pregnant, don't have sex. Um what? That's stupid. If an adult said to another adult, I'm not ready for kids so I don't want to have sex, they would be crazy. That's like saying, I'm not ready to learn how to drive because I don't want to deal with the consequences of getting in an accident. But anyways, if she used protection properly, and nothing happened to indicate that it would be malfunctioning in any way, she probably isn't pregnant. If she used a condom and it didn't slip off, break etc... then there is pretty much zero chance unless he has super sperm that somehow go through latex (not really). If she's on the pill though, she should really take a test because the pill is only about 98% effective. Very good, but not perfect. When I lost mine, I was worried as well that I might be. Just tell her to use condoms always, and she'll be safe. And not to freak out unless her period is at least two weeks late. Then she should take a test. And no, sex doesn't cause you to have a delay in your period. Nothing but hormones can do that.

As far as I know, if she wasn't under any stress before becoming late, there should be no reason for her being late.

That being said, the human body is a weird and wonderful thing. Just because she's been pendulum regular up until now doesn't mean that she will stay so, or won't become so again.

She used protection? Good for her! (Tell her to *always* insist that he use protection (and she should get a secondary form of protection as well - the pill, cervical cap, diphram, etc) every time, until she's ready for motherhood.) If he doesn't have, he don't get...

However, condoms break, they (can) leak, diaphrams/etc have to be correctly placed, and the pill (even when used correctly) is only 98% effective. Your friend may still be pregnant. Tell her and the boyfriend to buy a pregnancy test or three and follow the instructions as cloisely as possible.

As another poster stated - if you're not ready to have a kid, you're not ready for sex.

Edit: Incidentally, some women's bodies don't accept the contraceptives very well. I know of one woman who did hers via subdermal implant. The doctor implanted her "sticks" (for lack of a better term) correctly, and she still became pregnant.

Sex does not delay your period. If she hasn't gotten her period yet, she should take a home pregnancy test either from the drug store or the doctor's office.

If she is pregnant she needs to talk to a doctor. it's not the end of the world, there are support systems out there for whatever she choses.

What is "protection"?

Condoms are used correctly less than 50% of the time. A condom can break, leak or slip off during intercourse. In one test, 33% (1/3) of the latex condoms leaked HIV(the virus that causes AIDS). Unlike the AIDS virus, HPV (human papillomavirus) is a STD that is passed by direct intimate (skin to skin) contact. HPV is the most common viral STD in the United States. Experts report that condoms provide little, if any, protection against this STD. The Center for Disease Control says, "Used inconsistently (less than 100 percent of the time), condoms offer little more protection than when they are not used at all."

Statistics:

1 in 5 Americans has been infected with an STD (American Social Health Association).

The fastest growing population contracting AIDS is women. In 1985, 7% of AIDS cases reported were women. That percentage increased to 14% in 1992, and to 23% in 1999 (AIDS.ORG).

Sexually active adolescent girls have the highest risk of cervical infections because the ectropion, or delicate tissue that surrounds a young woman's cervix, is not fully formed until she is 18 years old. It is, therefore, very vulnerable to blood borne infections (Alan Gutmacher Institute, 1994).

Approximately 2/3 of all people who acquire STDs are under 25 (American Social Health Association).

PID or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is the most rapidly increasing cause of infertility in the United States. Researchers have estimated that a sexually active 15-year-old has a 1 in 8 chance of developing PID. By the age of 24, the probability decreases to 1 in 80 (The Medical Institute).

There are presently more than 25 significant STDs (Center for Disease Control).

In the United States, more than 65 million people are currently living with an incurable STD. An additional 15 million people become infected each year (ibid).

Get a test, have her take it
Stress can make your period late
Have her take a test right away
If she is not pregnant, and decide to have sex again
have her to the three things
1. have her get on birth control
2. never have sex without a condom
3. Always use a spermicide
If she do all three, every time she has sex, she should not get pregnant
Good luck

I hate to beat a dead horse, but if you aren't ready to get pregnant, you shouldn't be having sex.

Losing your virginity and the emotions and hormones that might accompany it could potentially delay a period...

How late is she? If she's more than 10 days late, there's a good chance she's more than likely pregnant.

In the future, she should use multiple forms of birth control. The pill and condoms... at least.

Tell her to get a pregnancy test and quit stressing over it. That can also delay a period.

Take a test, it's the only way to be sure. And remember this feeling the next time she and her boyfriend think about having sex.
