I have an si joint injury. I was misdiagnosed twice before a specialist figured it out. He has sent me to a physical therapist that is trained in si joint problems. I have been prescribed anti-inflammatory , pain medicine and Lyrica for nerve pain. I have excercises to do at home. There is also a special belt they can get you if you stand alot, to help support the weakened area. They also may get you a tens unit. They have never mentioned surgery as an option for me. My hip keeps going out of place.

My situation has gone on since Sept. My dr said today on my next visit we may need to discuss a permanent work restriction. I wish you the best & and sympathize with your pain.

Good luck!

I've been a physical therapist for about 13 years, and I have never heard of anyone having surgey on an SI joint.

You do have options for care of the SI, however. You will want to see a PT who is experienced in that area. Very often, SI problems occur because the joint is no longer stable. Use of bracing in the short term can help the area to "scar down" and become more stable. Also, there is a technique called Prolotherapy, where a physician injects a solution into the area that causes scarring - this helps to stabilize the joint.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT", and search your home area. Look for someone who is board-certified in orthopedic or sports PT (OCS or SCS after their name).

Good luck!
