It was a sound card made by Hercules Labs that had a rack-like attachment that allowed you to plug audio inputs and outputs and control audio from your desk.

As far as what it does - it acts like a computer soundcard. You can play and record audio with it. The thing that made it different was the rack-like attachment that allowed easy access to the plugs and controls. It also had a neat feature that would detect headphones being plugged in and would disable the speakers.

If you wanted one, you can probably buy one on Ebay.
