She gave him a sedative to knock the prince out so he wouldn't remember what happened. So he (the prince) started to believe...along with everyone else, that he had killed Jessica Beil's character when in fact she (and the illusionist) made it look as though (to the guy up stairs, and to the movie audience) that she got stabbed.....all an elaborate hoax...so they got away. And The illusionist finally did what he could never do (remember in the beginning when they were kids) ..............disappear!

The girl is alive. The magician and her cooked up a scheme where she would be declared dead and they could run away together without being pursued by the emperor's men.
Not sure if the doctor was into the scheme. I had a feeling like she took a potion that made her "look dead" to people.

Well its pretty easy. When the illusionist and the girl found each other, they clearly wanted to be together,so they made an elobarate plan to sabotage the guy she was with. The public already knew his past history and his abuse on woman,so the played that to their strenghts. They sedated the emperor and she faked her own death. The emperor knowing that he had knocked out, knew nothing what had happened so he was obviously afraid of losing the crown. So all in all,it was all an illusion.hope that helped....such a great movie by the way=]

The whole point of the movie was to put together all the magic tricks and scenes of the girl's death together. Everything in the movie was done perfectly to keep the viewer wondering during the movie. The emperor didn't die because he would later be link to his death. although, I don't hink he would kill the emperor because he was already caught by the inspector. He wan't made to be caught at all because that was the whole point in watching the movie figuring out the clues.

she puts a drug into his wine so he will get angry but it nocks him out quickly, jsut as soon as he is in the stable; then she takes a jewel from his sword and drops one in the hay(along with her special locket) and keeps one to put in her dress; then poors blood on his sword and on herself and the horse and rides out slumped over; she takes some special drug so she doesnt die when she goes into the river; the docter finds the jewel and gives it to the chief; eisenhiem later lets the chief find the papers that say how to unlock the locket and that gets the chief to look in the stable and find the jewel and the locket which "proves" that the emperor did it; this gets the chief to confront the emperor and the emperor kills himself because of it
