Prepaid is your only route. I don`t blame your parents, since when is it their duty to provide you with a cellphone? They`re not a need, they`re a want. You have to earn your parent`s trust to have that kind of privilege.

What's wrong with a prepaid? I'd forget getting another cell phone, since you obviously can't control your telephonitis ($500?? My parents would have killed me!). There is no earthly reason to go for a contract phone as long as prepaids are available (I'm letting my Cingular go as soon as the contract runs out - why pay $ 70 a month for a phone that's hardly used?)

I understand your point. I had a prepaid phone for like a year and it sucked. You have to pay so much for them. My parents finally gave in on getting me another phone that went onto our family plan. To convinve your parents tell them that you understand that they are trying to get you to know the value of money. Tell them that you deserve a new cell phone. If you go a lot of places tell them that you are wasting money on just calling them and that it would make it better with a regular phone. Lets hope they give in, and good luck!

I wouldn't buy another contract phone for either of you if you were my kids. lol

Just be happy with what you have. There's nothing wrong with a prepaid phone. With that said, check out SunCom because they have the Unplan, with unlimited minutes.
