I was wondering because I saw an add in the paper for an egg donor. What is the procedure for getting the eggs? Would it hurt?

I've been on IVF for a while and been through the part of egg collection. I would go so far as to say it's painful but as stated in one of the other answers, there is discomfort. You have to go on hormone injections for a while before then under general anesthetic they collect the eggs. The worst part for me was that I had 18 follicles in my belly which made me very bloated and uncomfortable for about a week. There is also the time factor. You have to be monitored daily with blood tests and ultrasounds. Mind you, all clinics have varying procedures so they may vary from my experience. I have to say that I would be happy to donate eggs though as I know the heartache of not being able to conceive. We've been trying for 3 years. I hope I helped.

I have donated eggs three times. While there is some bloating and discomfort, you get most of these pains with your period anyway. Yes, there is the tiny pinch of the needle every morning, but you really don't feel it half the time. but you do have to take hormone injections every morning for a couple weeks, then an additional shot for a week or so at night. The retreival is virtually painless, as they put you to sleep while they do the procedue. It's very minor, and takes 20 minutes tops. After the retrieval you feel period like cramps and you'll be tired for a day from the meds.

The risks involved, while hyped up in the media, are actually very minimal. It's really a great feeling helping to create a family. Good luck in your journey.

I run an egg donor agency. I do advertise is some college papers.
If you see my webpage, it covers almost everything you would want to know about the process.
I have also been an egg donor 6 times. The process is more busy than it is painful. Discomfort is limited. I have never heard of long term problems, and you should have no problem getting pregnant on your own when you choose.

Go to the link below! It has details about the process. I highly suggest looking into support groups for egg donors. I honestly would bet that some have experience problems with their cycles after all of those interventions, as well as trouble conceiving. The internet is key for research. Hope this helps!
