I've probably tried every alternative migraine cure out there: cut out caffeine, kava kava, st john's wort, cut out sugar, etc. etc. None of them worked.

When I get a migraine I start with Excedrine migraine. If its not too bad that works. Otherwise I take Imitrix. I know its wicked expensive but its the only thing that actually works for me. If I try to not take any meds I get completely disabled and vomit uncontrollably when I get a migraine. Then its an emergency visit to the hospital for a shot of demerol and I sleep for 18hrs.

Check into different insurance plans. Some cover all or nearly all the cost for prescription migraine meds. If you don't have insurance check with the DHS or your county health department.

Good luck.

it could be a migraine but it sounds more like a nasal congestion headache..( Do you have a stuffy nose or nasal allergies?) For Migraine: Try a warm rag on your face in the dark after you take some Excedrin Migraine. Or you can use Lavendar scents as well with the above. Also try a BIG dose of caffine and some chocolate.. that always works. For a Nasal Congestion or Nasal Allergy Headache: Try a nasal decongestant as well as some vapor rub under your nose.. Also a warm wash rag on your face or a hot steam shower.. the steam will help unclog your nose. Good Luck

There are two remedies she could try if she can feel them coming on (aura). The first one is spicy gumbo, or any spicy hot soup. The other one is to sip a carbonated beverage. It seems to work by redirecting pain. The carbonated beverage was a bartender's remedy, and it was beer but the alcohol wasn't what helped. He said the man should sip it, which means he was getting the full feel of the carbonation. Carbonation is felt as pain, which doesn't surprise me because I knew a girl taking those heavy drugs and she couldn't taste carbonation. So I'd suggest either or both of those, and I'd probably carry a small bottle of tabasco sauce and a small can of seltzer water if I were a migraine sufferer. I'd keep hot peppers in the refreigerator, too. As far as the pills, I assume she'd only take them if she gets a migraine. You might only want to buy two or three to see if they work first, and to have them on hand if the other remedies don't work.

I used to get migraines all the time. I went to the doctor and had lots of tests ran, and they said there was no reason for the migraines. They called them stress related, which is what they call anything they can't figure out. Anyway... they said they couldn't give me anything for them. I found this stuff called Fever Few. You can buy it at GNC. Take 4 pills with something hot like coffee or hot tea. It works for me everytime!

Ginger helps me. My doctor gave me a vitamin regimen once. It included calcium with vitamin D, CoQ10, vitamin B1, and magnesium. I don't remember his exact recommended amounts of each but you could try giving her the minimums on the bottles and see how she does or ask her doctor. That worked really well and made me feel better all around. The prescription meds are supposed to be great but they just made me sick.

Also, check out "Food: Your Miracle Medicine" by Jean Carper. She has a lot of good information about headaches and migraines and what trigger foods to avoid.

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Pure peppermint oil from a health food store just might work, i use to get migraines all the time and i don't have them anymore, you only need one drop as it is highly concentrated, put some on the forhead and behind the ears.

try cayne pepper pills, they wont stop the migraine but they do help them from being so bad, and they are less than $10 over the counter in the herbal supplement aisle.
