Hello wo -

It depends on where you live, what type of grass and if you are planting the grass (as in sod) or sowing seeds of grass. Before or agter would depend on the conditions and requirements each.

As a general rule, in either case, if you are undecided then I would plant it before. If rain doesnt come when anticipated then water the grass. If you are planting grass, then I would plant it agter; but, not immediately agter because the soil should be workable. Doing it agter, the soil could be muddy and cause more problems than if the seed/sod was in place before. So, generally - the idea would be to plant it before - not agter.

Good luck.

Based on experience, after. The reason is that unless it's just misting, the rain can wash your seeds into clumps. Then you will end up with bare spots in some places, and suffocated seed with crowded clumps of grass in others (unevenness).

Also, you'll get surprisingly better results if you go for quality seed. With the cheap bags of seed, you won't get as many of the seeds to germinate, no matter when you sow the seed. I like outsidepride.com (I hope it's okay to say that). They're also very nice on the phone and can help you pick the right seed for your area. You'll pay a little more at the beginning, but what's better: buying seed over and over, or buying just enough and getting the results you expected the first time around?

take a steel rake and loosen up the dirt and plant your seed preferably before a rain. grass seed germinates the best on hot humid nights. water good in the mornings before work and the heat of the day will do the rest. it usually takes a week and a half to two weeks before you see growth.you can even soe seed in the winter. it will lay dormant until it gets warm enough to germinate.

I would say before, but only because the seeds need time, water, and sunshine to germinate. Fresh grass seeding needs lots of water to grow properly. You really have to prep the ground, fertilize and keep the earth moist for a nice lawn.

For one thing, you don't "plant" grass, you "sow" grass!
In the spring right after the rain (If you don't cover it with straw) so that is stays on the moist ground and doesn't blow away.
Keep watering it 2-3 times a day if it is hot outside.
Good luck!
