To me writing rap lyrics seems much easier than writing a normal song. Hence, it is difficult to compare him to normal song writers.
I dont like rap but I like Eminem because of his lyrics.
Compared to most other rappers he is in a class of his own. Usually rappers these days just talk about women and money, he talks about more interesting and challenging topics. 10 years ago who would have thought that the most important rapper of the next generation would have been white?
The first time I saw him was on "My name is...", the lyrics were so funny and fresh I instantly liked him. His second album is just as good lyrically.

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of his or anything. However, I do think he has written very well in some songs: When I'm Gone (like you said) Mosh, Like Toy Soldiers, especially Mockingbird, etc.) However, it seems like rappers just try to fit in with the genre and write about pretty perverted things sometimes, Eminem included. I don't want this to be a reflection of who he may be as a person but I'm just not a fan of meaningless rap/rappers.
But yes, I see your point. I like some of his songs (which is big for me because I really don't like rap, at all... never have) but other songs of his are just like everyone else's and I have no interest in that.

Lyrically I don't think there is ANYONE to touch him (Yes that includes Jay-Z). He puts words together that shouldn't ryhmne but somehow he makes it work. He is hilarious but at the same time he can make you question your own morals just by simply liking his music. The Marshall Mathers L.P. is in my opinion untouchable,it is a masterpiece.I think that alot of the time that Eminem isn't recognised as the best MC because of all the controversy surrounding him but mostly because he is white.
For me he is the best thing to happen to rap since Tupac.

em aint a bad lyricist he writes a lot about his life and the **** he goes through, but some of his songs and sometimes that hold your nose and talk style is questionable. rap sucks so bad today that em is probobly best rapper alive next to nas, unless my boy raek comes back with another killer purple banger 2 then em is number 3.

I disagree with the other comments. I don't really like rap or hiphop but the few songs of Eminem's that I've heard, I actually was surprised to appreciate them (i.e. Stan, Lose Yourself) He might be a jerk of a person, but his writing isn't bad.

His hit songs are nothing special, most of them are crap but he has the ability, and has on other songs, to warp and connect the English language in such a way that it ultimately changed rap. His rhyme scheme is unparalleled to most main-stream rap artists, and i say that not as a fan, I listen very little to rap music. It boils down to the fact that he is intelligent and knows how to use it.

I love eminems songs,he writes them himself and they are about his life,alot of people can relate to his songs.He is the best white rapper ever.I agree with you when im gone has great lyrics.Also he writes alot about his daughter in his songs,which i think is lovely.

As a 38 year old mother of 4, I think he is the best white rappist i have ever heard and i can understand what he says. His lyrics as most rappists are from the heart.

i think eminem is a great rapper. he writes the truth about his life which is sad, but he turns them into great songs. and if you dont like his words then dont listen to them.cause last i checked he's not poisoning mine or any of my friends minds
