I've read that people tend to like those who likes them, but on the other hand, a lot of the times when you like someone and that person knows about it, he starts to act indifferent and turns cold. Why is it like that? What are the reasons person does that?

It's unfortunate that this happens, but it has to do with human nature. When someone knows you like them and they don't like you back in that way, they may feel you are kind of being a phony. They feel you are just trying to be nice to them only because you like them. However, they also may think if they act nice and show affection back, you might think they like you, only they don't but are just being friends. They become cold so as not to hurt you. Other times the person may actually not like you at all, and are only pretending; maybe to use you or something. Hopefully that is not the case, and most of the time it isn't. If you want to still remain friends, than you should tell him, "Look I understand if you don't like me, but that is no reason you have to ignore me. I still wanna be friends." Hopefully it works and you will not lose a friend.

This happens a lot. I think because whenever we know we can have something, we are not as excited to get it anymore. For instance, if you have ice cream in your freezer, you may not want to devour it right away, because you know it's there and it will be later. However, when you get a craving for that ice cream and your roommate tells you she ate the whole cart last night, then you really get a strong craving. So it's kind of like that in a way - we always want what we can't have - it's the allure of the forbidden fruit and the chase which make the unattainable so appealing.

It makes people feel out of control.
It also makes them feel guilty, if they are not naturally as giving and affectionate as the person who likes them.
And, people like to feel that they are needed, so they like the joy and control of showing affection much of the time---it makes them feel good about themselves.
It's more fun to give than receive---if you receive all the time, you feel inadequate.

Some people also grew up in families where there was no love, or that people showed their love in a more indirect way, without obvious displays of affection.
If you come from a family where spontaneous affection was the norm, it seems weird to a person whose family members didn't communicate that way.

I had that happen to me recently. I think it is because most men don't understand a woman's emotions and they don't like being smothered by a womans emotions. It seems most guys like it when women play hard to get.

maybe because they dont want to take the next step with that person, and that they dont have the same feelings so it creeps em out a bit

That person may not like you and is trying to stop you from liking him, he's probably trying not to hurt your feelings and doesn't realize that it does.
