One major disadvantage is the fact that scientists do not know the long-term effects of genetically modified food with long term usage on humans. Also, Scientists do not know the unforeseen effects of gene insertion; for instance, the gene could cause a genetic mutation. Many people are allergic to genetically modified food…new allergies have become more common. Cross-breeding with natural vegetation and the genetically modified food could occur. Plants that are genetically modified to produce pharmaceutical drugs may contaminate the surrounding crops. I can go on for a while but those are just a few examples. Here are some interesting facts though. Animals tend to avoid genetically modified food because they are well aware of what’s harmful to them (I posted a study below). Furthermore, you may know of that scientists usually test any product on rats or many other primates before they introduce it to the general public. Well, a little over 50 percent of newborn rats ceased to exist within three weeks of their births when mothers were fed genetically engineered soya; 36 percent of the newborn rats growth was severely stunted. I would just like to end this by saying that the FDA knows full and well the harmful effects of genetically engineered food. In fact, they suppress reports all the time that support evidence to that claim.

Very few negatives about GM food. Do not listen to the twisted tree huggers on this topic.

Less biodiversity. We start with 300 or so kinds of grain and end up with two both trade marked-you have to pay to use them.
