for a science project i want to shine light through a prysm. where on earth does one purchase a prysm of glass for a simple project like this?

You'd probably be better off with a diffraction grating than a prism. It's essentially the same effect, but easier to work with. Try a local science store, like the Discovery Channel store or maybe even a Radio Shack. If all else fails, the back of a CD (not a blank one so much, but burned or bought) works as a basic prism for breaking up light.

If you spell it correctly, you'll find them everywhere. Prism. Put THAT in your search engine and smoke it!
