When you need a glass and drink the whole pitcher misery is bound to follow. People lack restraint and self discipline and are a victim of their own greed and ambition fueled by the jealousy of peers. Wisdom lies in knowing ones thirst and drinking accordingly.

short term v. long-term costs and benefits. For example, people go to college in hope of making their lives better in the long run. It has been proven that college grads make more money than high school grads. It also tests a person's drive or motivating factors. If you want something then go for it (as long as it is reasonable and legal). Nothing is more appreciated than something that has been earned through personal sacrifice.
