It depends on if it is a local move or between states.
If it is between states, the movers factor in how much stuff you have, how far they have to travel and how much the stuff will weigh. They also factor in how many movers will be needed as well as how much room in the moving truck your stuff will occupy. If you transport a car or piano, then it will cost even more.
If you move within the state say to the next city, the moving company charges by the hour.
