Widows and abuse victims deserve all the help and praise society can give them. However, how many single mothers got that way by not closing their legs, or taking their pill? Also, what should society do with the boys who make babes and won't be fathers?

If you think that not being hired for a job because you're a single mom, and not being able to get a date because you have a kid is a reward, youre mistaken. I have no pity for loose women who carelessly got knocked up, but accidents do happen as well. Moreover, we have entire societies of women who were raised without the benefit of 2 parents, morals, or an understanding of the importance of education. There is no easy solution, because the problems/contributors are complex. Education is the best prophylactic we know of thus far. Once the damage is done, there's no good way to clean up the mess.

It's hardly a reward. Society recognises that a mother with a new babe and no other support is in a precarious situation.
Society also knows that blame and condemnation does no good at all so all is there left to do is to help orphans, widows and the irresponsible.

Society isn't trying to reward irresponsibility on the mother's part (or for the father's for that matter) but prevent the children -- who are the innocents -- from being punished.

Unfortunately, throwing money at a problem never FIXES the problem.

The guys that keep getting women pregnant and won't be fathers should be castrated. No more babies from those deadbeats.
Think about it...a woman can only have one baby a year (9 month gestation). In that years time alone a man can sire 10 babies or more with different women (if he's really lucky..so to speak). Then it's off to conquest 100, or whatever the count.

I think it's more about providing for the children. As for the women..have you not ever made a mistake? Yes, they should know better, but things happen. As for the boys...the system is on to them...they will take your life away for not proving (drivers license, wages, countless other things)
